Inspired by the recurring presence of time and decay throughout the works of Edgar Allan Poe, this piece reflects the quiet terror of time as it slowly reshapes all things.

In Poe’s literary world, time is never neutral. The striking clock in The Masque of the Red Death reminds revelers that each passing hour brings them closer to death, while the descending blade in The Pit and the Pendulum transforms time itself into an instrument of dread. Even in A Dream Within a Dream, Poe laments the impossibility of holding onto time as it slips away like grains of sand.

The architectural form of the piece evokes a small gothic window or temple, echoing Poe’s frequent use of structures as metaphors for the human mind, beautiful yet fragile, capable of slowly falling into ruin.

At the center of the piece, a faceted clear quartz stone reveals a miniature hand painted artwork created by artist Admin Torres, transforming the jewel into a small framed world preserved beneath crystal.

The surrounding metalwork was handcrafted in oxidized sterling silver, giving the piece an aged and atmospheric character that echoes the haunting passage of time found throughout Poe’s literature.
