PLUTO

A shadow that refuses to disappear.

Inspired by the unsettling presence of the black cat in Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat, this piece reflects the darker side of human nature where affection slowly transforms into cruelty and guilt lingers long after the act is done.

In Poe’s tale, Pluto begins as a beloved companion, intelligent and loyal. Yet as the narrator descends into madness, the once gentle relationship becomes corrupted by violence and remorse. Even after death, the cat’s presence seems to return as a silent reminder that conscience cannot be escaped.

The name Pluto also evokes the ancient ruler of the underworld, subtly echoing the descent into darkness that unfolds throughout the story.

At the center of the piece, a faceted clear quartz stone reveals a miniature hand painted artwork created by artist Admin Torres, transforming the jewel into a small framed world preserved beneath crystal.

The surrounding metalwork was handcrafted in oxidized sterling silver, giving the piece an aged and atmospheric character that echoes the shadowed and psychological worlds present in Poe’s literature.
